EXPERT REVIEWS

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha was launched in September 2014 and featured with a design that was very much inspired by Apple iPhone 5S. The design of the phone was a firm departure to traditional ways of Samsung smartphones and felt like a refreshing change from the company‚Äôs side.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha features a 4.7 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen that provides a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The display has enabled multi-touch and protected by  Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The phone is powered by an Exynos 5 Octa 5430 chipset clocked to Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 & Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, while having a 2GB of RAM. The phone runs on Android OS version 4.4.4 (KitKat), with the help of TouchWiz UI skin. The phone comes with a 32 GB internal memory, while the memory cannot be expanded by its users. The 12 MP rear camera provided in the phone is assisted by an LED flashlight, while the front shooter is provided with 2.1MP. HD video recording is also done by the camera at frames like 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, and 720p@120fps. The phone has a design which feels completely inspired by the Apple iPhone5S, with its straight and smooth sides and the edges that meet at right angles. The home button houses a fingerprint scanner, while a heart monitor is also provided in the phone. The phone is very handy with its dimensions as 5.21 x 2.58 x 0.26 inches and weighs only 115 grams, which makes it very light. The 1860 mAh Li-Ion battery provided in the phone promises a stand-by time up to 350 hours and a talk time up to 11 hours on 3G networks.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha offers a great smartphone experience, not only it has a powerful processor this phone this phone is topped with features such as heart rate and fingerprint scanners. The fingerprint sensor is docked with the home button and allows finger detection up to a maximum of three users. The heart rate sensor behaves erratically and one has to adjust their finger a lot to get some result. The camera provided in the phone works great as the images captured by it are full of colours and originality, but the only drawback is that the quality deteriorates in low light conditions. The phone also records video in 4K, which again is impressive. The TouchWiz UI provided works smoothly and offers a lot of customization options. The only thing which act as a deal-breaker for the phone is its 1860 mAh battery and if one can manage carrying power banks then this phone poses no challenge.
